I saw these Fuzzyfeet felted socks/slippers on Knitty.com and knew I had to make them.
The yarn is a great bright purple (scans as more of a blue) Baabajoes New Zealand Wool
I did one sock (huge!) last year, and then set it aside. Having that unfinished project kept bugging me, so I finished it this year (2004). The second sock went so quickly, I don't know why I hadn't finished it last year! Perhaps I was egged on to finish and felt because I had just finished knitting a Booga Bag.
I put the 2 socks in one lingere bag, and the purse in another and gave them a hot wash/cold rinse trip in the washing machine. I added a bit of Murphy's Oil Soap because I had read to use soap vs. detergent. I set the machine for enough water to cover the items and the agitate/spin for heavy/fast. Both items felted to what I wanted in only one trip. My washer does an excellent job of spinning things pretty dry, so the socks only took one night to finish drying. I also set them on the radiator, so that probably helped. I tried them on first, so they were formed like phantom feet and looked really cute there on the radiator.
These are more like sloppy slippers than socks. I would make these again, but probably with a slightly firmer tension and make them narrower too.
Of course, e-mail me if you have any questions.
